According to a report on the website of the Spanish daily Izvestia on January 27, the European Union and China are strengthening their ties in energy matters. The two sides have launched the third phase of the China-Eu Energy Cooperation Platform, launched in 2019, with the aim of sharing common interests and goals to advance the transition to clean energy.

Specifically, the Commission has put forward a tender to select a service provider that will support the EU's efforts to achieve results in its enhanced dialogue with China. The contract is worth 5 million euros (36.71 million yuan), according to sources. The China-Eu Energy Cooperation Platform is jointly led by the EU Directorate-General for Energy and the National Energy Administration of China.

According to the report, the European Commission said: "The China-Eu Energy Cooperation Platform will continue to support the China-Eu dialogue on clean energy transition, energy markets and commercial cooperation in the energy sector. A new tender is needed to select qualified service providers to support the EU in achieving the required results and products in strengthening dialogue and exchanges with key stakeholders, building on the results and partnerships achieved in the first two phases."

The EU and China share common interests and goals in energy transition, and together they account for one-third of global end-energy consumption, the report said. Cooperation between Brussels and Beijing is therefore focused on supporting both sides' clean energy transition, which is a prerequisite for the successful implementation of the Paris Agreement and the provision of clean, sustainable and affordable energy to citizens of both sides.

China is serious about the development and utilization of renewable energy and will have the world's largest offshore wind farm, the report said. The wind farm will have an installed capacity of 43.3 gigawatts and will be located in Chaozhou, Guangdong province. In addition, China is completing the construction of the world's largest photovoltaic power station in the Kubuqi Desert, covering nearly 1.5 million square meters. It also dominates manufacturing capacity for solar panels, wind turbines, batteries for electric cars and heat pumps.
