Xinjiang sends new energy electricity to help the whole country save energy and reduce emissions

According to the latest data from State Grid Xinjiang Electric Power Co., LTD., Xinjiang, which is rich in wind and solar energy resources, has delivered more than 100 billion KWH of new energy electricity to 20 provinces, regions and municipalities in China over the past 10 years through four "Xinjiang power transmission" transmission channels, which is equivalent to burning 32 million tons less standard coal, helping China achieve its carbon emission goal.

Zhang Jun, a staff member of Xinjiang Power Trading Center Co., LTD., introduced that in 2011, the "Xinjiang power transmission" for the first time included new energy electricity. In that year, only 226 million KWH of new energy electricity was sent out, and by the end of 2020, the number had reached 26.76 billion KWH.

From the perspective of environmental protection, 100 billion KWH of new energy electricity can reduce the burning of standard coal by 32 million tons, equivalent to 86.4 million tons of carbon dioxide, 272,000 tons of sulfur dioxide, and 237,000 tons of nitrogen oxides. The 32 million tons of standard coal can be converted into 22.4 million tons of raw coal, and about 373,300 train cars are needed to transport the coal based on the 60 tons carrying capacity of each train car.

In recent years, Xinjiang's new-energy power generation industry has developed   steadily. The installed capacity of new energy reached 35.825,500 kW, ranking among the highest in China. The efficiency of new energy utilization also increased from 63% in 2016 to 91% last year.

In 2011, new energy electricity was delivered to Xinjiang on a small scale. With the launch of two UHVDC power transmission projects in 2014 and 2019, respectively, from Hami South to Zhengzhou (±800 kV) and from Changji to Guquan, Anhui Province (± 1,100 kV), Xinjiang has realized large-scale transmission of new energy power. This has   not only activated scenic resources to boost Xinjiang's economic growth, but also contributed to national energy conservation and emission reduction.
